This breathtakingly beautiful building is the Cruwell-Haus in Bielefeld, Germany. As this captivating poster tells us, the building dates from 1530 A.D.
The building served as the factory for Cruwell-Tabak, the German tobacco company, from, 1783 (as the poster tells us) until the 1980s. Though Cruwell-Tabak is no longer in business, the building still stands, with a tobacco shop inside.
Although the company ceased operations in the 1980s, this poster which advertises its tobacco products has a timeless appeal that has grown steadily over the years. The plain background --black at the top, fading to light blue at the bottom -- is a wonderful contrast to the ornate building which shimmers as though it contains a light all its own. It’s a lovely vision.
This is a poster you will never tire of looking at. If you collect vintage tobacco posters, this one would be a notable addition.
