In this advertising poster from the 1950s, a smiling woman is serving up a generous slice of panettone made by the Zapparoli bakery in Milan. An Italian fruitcake that is a favorite Italian tradition during the holidays, panettone was first made in Milan centuries ago, and so the claim on the poster that that Zapparoli panettone is il migliore di Milano (the best of Milan), is no insignificant boast.
In the background are scenes from Milan, most notably, the Duomo.
Gino Boccasile (1901-1952), who created this poster, was an Italian illustrator, artist and graphic designer.
If you enjoy collecting vintage food posters, this Italian poster would be a wonderful addition to your kitchen and your collection.
