Famed English artist David Hockney created a portfolio of lithographs using a method introduced to him by the printer Ken Tyler (Tyler Graphics) which involved layering of Mylar sheets. These Moving Focus Prints, as he called them, were exhibited at the Tate Gallery in London in 1986, and this lithograph was one of the exhibition posters.
It’s an interesting lithograph because the exhibition information appears at the bottom in a crumpled-paper collage style. The artwork above it is a work by Hockney titled Views of Hotel Well III as pictured in a wood frame designed by Hockney. Hockney’s signature, the date (1984-85) and edition (2/80) of the artwork are printed within the lithograph, appearing in the plate.
David Hockney (b. 1937) is one of the most influential and accomplished British contemporary artists in printmaking, photography, stage design, and painting. His work is in the collections of many of the world most prestigious museums and galleries.
