This stunning lithograph advertises a Miro Painting and Sculpture Exhibit at the Pierre Matisse Gallery in New York in 1975. It is signed by the artist Joan Miro.
A black bird, with an expansive profile that fills the frame and beyond, has an eye accented with blue, a yellow beak and a red wattle. The image is dramatic yet playful and fanciful, qualities often seen in Miro's art. He frequently used black along with primary colors in his art, and in this print black dominates, with the red, blue and and yellow providing brilliant flashes of color.
Barcelona-born, Miro (1893-1983) was an influential twentieth-century painter, sculptor, ceramicist and print maker. At the forefront of Spanish modern art throughout most of his career, he was a leader in the Surrealism movement and, later, Abstract Expressionism. His numerous works can be seen in museums throughout the world.
This lovely, rare lithograph would be perfect in a home or office with a contemporary black/white décor.
