This stunning lithograph titled Theogonie was designed by Georges Braque and used as an exhibition poster by the Galerie Maeght in Paris. During his career, Braque created works of art inspired by etchings he had made in the 1930s for an edition of Hesiod's Theogony (Theogonie d'Hesiode), a poem from 700 BC about the Greek gods and the creation of the universe.
Braque (1882-1963) was a renowned French painter, sculptor, collagist and print maker. As a colleague and friend of Picasso, Braque played a prominent role in the development of Cubism.
The beautiful, swirly green profile which is the focus of this lithograph is set against a dark background, with gold line drawings adding lovely accents above and below. Elegant and distinctive, with a simple design, this sophisticated lithograph will add beauty and style to every room.
