Charlie Chaplin sits in a bathtub, fully clothed, holding a newspaper with the headline, "Mr. Brainwash Presents Art Show 2009 Icons." And that's what this 2009 poster is: a one man show by Mr. Brainwash of art icons. Just for you, the viewer. The tricky part here is that it's an "I Spy" show in which the viewer has to search out the art and the art references buried in piles of objects and storms of graffiti. Mr. Brainwash, always the prankster, is having a good time with this one.
Can you find the signatures and iconography of famous artists such as Vincent van Gogh, Picasso and Keith Haring? They're in that collection of interesting objects. Can you find the references to Marcel Duchamps? They are there too (hint: start with the signature "R. Mutt 1917" on the rim of the bathtub). Keep going and see what else you can unearth.
French born and Los Angeles based, "Mr. Brainwash" is the name used by the street artist Thierry Guetta (b. 1966), known for his colorful social commentary using street art/Pop art styles depicting images of iconic people and celebrities. Mr. Brainwash works among graffiti artists including Banksy & Shepard Fairey.
Turn your half bath into a full bath by adding a tub, in this case a bathtub occupied by everyone's favorite mime, Charlie Chaplin. The added bonus: plenty of interesting reading material for every appreciative bathroom user. This is a rare, limited edition signed in pencil poster.
