This Polish poster of a nattily dressed, mustachioed bird advertises a 1964 performance at the Dramatic Theater in Warsaw of a production titled Szkoda Wasow (Pity the Moustache). Written in 1814 by Polish actor/playwright Ludwik Adam Dmuszewski (1777-1847), with a revival by Polish composer and director Leon Schiller (1887-1954), this comedic opera was about customs, fashion and snobbery in old Warsaw.
Jerry Srokowski (1910-1975), a very well known Polish graphic designer and illustrator, created this poster for the 1964 production.
Whimsical, fun and colorful, this poster is rarely available for sale.
