Evoking bygone times, this charming poster from 1924 is an advertisement for Barndutschfest, a festival in Bern, Switzerland. Barndutsch is a Swiss-German dialect historically spoken in the region around Bern.
Appealing in its simplicity and beauty, the poster shows a lovely young woman dressed in traditional garb and carrying a plant that resembles a geranium, a popular flower in Switzerland. The pinkish bloom adds a pleasing touch of color, which is repeated in the shading on her cheek and on the top part of her skirt. Her head is turned to the side and she's looking slightly behind her -- perhaps she's leaving the festival, on her way home with the flower she was hoping to buy.
Swiss artist Ernst Ruprecht (1891-1954) designed this poster.
Exquisite and very rare, this poster will add beauty and style wherever it is displayed.
