This famous Viet Nam War protest poster from 1969 shows a soldier wearing a military uniform that has been colored blood red. He is holding a white dove, and the caption below him states, “Who has a better right to oppose the war?” The poster was commissioned by The Student Mobilization Committee to End the War in Vietnam.
Richard Avedon (1923-2004) was the photographer for this poster and it is signed by him. Known for his black and white portraits and his fashion photographs, Avedon was one of the leading photographers of the 20th century. Avedon’s colleague and frequent collaborator Marvin Israel (1924-1984) was the poster designer. As an artist and designer, Israel influenced many of the important photographers of the 20th century.
