Ruth Page and Bentley Stone’s ballet company, Les Ballets Americains, was the first American ballet company to tour Europe after WWII. It performed in Paris in May 1950 at the Theatre des Champs-Elysees as part of this tour. Included in its repertoire was the performance of the controversial ballet Frankie and Johnny, deemed scandalous at the time by some. This poster advertises the company’s history-making performances.
Georges Wakhévitch (1907-1984), a French painter who also designed sets and costumes for the theater and for the ballet, designed this interesting poster.
Ballet lovers will enjoy owning this important and unique poster marking a significant event in ballet history.
