DEAUVILLE HORSE RACE POSTER

Imagine a trip to the Parisian riviera where you sit on a lovely beach.  Right behind you, just a few steps away, is a beautiful casino where you can take a break from the sun when you feel like trying your luck at the roulette table.  In front of you, in the surf, racehorses streak by, not too many and not too often of course, just enough action to keep you from getting bored as you gaze out at the sea.

This magical fantasy, part surrealism and part art deco, was conjured up by the French  artist Pierre Barraya (b. 1938).
