This poster, an offset lithograph, is an advertisement for an exhibition at De Waag (the Weigh House), a fifteenth century building on Nieuwmarkt Square in Amsterdam.
The exhibit is titled Hier Uw Haven (Here is Your Port), and with charmingly simple illustrations this poster gives us a glimpse into all the commercial activities at a port. Cargo ships with cranes load and unload, airplanes fly in and out, and, in the port's warehouse, workers driving fork lifts (this one with a load of lumber) provide a necessary link in the transportation chain.
Showing the port as a complex transportation hub humming with activity, the poster piques the viewers' interest in visiting the exhibit to learn more. It achieves its purpose with an appealing design and simple images.
Noted Dutch painter, water colorist, graphic designer and lithographer Maarten (Mart) Kempers (1924-1993) designed this poster.
