AU GRAND PASTEUR POSTER

This advertisement for the Grand Pasteur furniture store in Chambery, France promises "Meubles Decoration," which translates as "Decorative Furniture." The interesting bird's-eye view that is offered shows a businessman sitting and reading a newspaper while smoking. Displaying elements of the then-popular Art Deco style, the room contains three simple pieces of furniture -- a chair, a table and a tall chest -- and is otherwise lacking frills and soft accents reminiscent of the "olden" days.  Rather, it's a "modern" room, with a sleek look defined by the geometric style of the rug with its blue border.  

This poster captures perfectly the updated style of furnishings that dominated the European home design market in the period between the WWI and WWII.
