ROBERT ZAKANITCH SIGNED YELLOW FEATHER PRINT

This 1983 screen print by Robert Zakanitch, signed and numbered in pencil, is #73 of an edition of 144. Hauntingly beautiful, it portrays a yellow feather floating against a dark background.

Zakanitch (b. 1935) is an American artist who is regarded as one of the leaders of the Pattern and Decoration movement that began in the mid-1970s and made decoration key to art making. Ornamentalism and embellishment were embraced as an alternative to abstraction and representation. The artists who were part of this movement sought to bring into their art whatever beauty they encountered in the world that would make their art glow.

The brilliantly yellow feather, floating in front of a dark background, certainly makes this screen print glow. It will become the instantly dramatic focal point of any room where it is hung.
