This 1967 exhibition poster publicizes a show at the Pace Gallery in New York titled Ernest Trova/Recent Sculpture.
Trova (1927-2009) was an American painter and sculptor best known for his paintings, prints and sculptures that were part of his Falling Man series. The artwork on this poster is from this series. Four identical white figures, with two white balls above each, appear on all four sides of a central orange square with a gray background and gray and black borders. The effect of this abstract geometric study is visually stunning.
Trova's figures in The Falling Man series are androgynous and incomplete, most notably lacking arms (as in this artwork). One of Trova's first jobs after high school was to create store displays using mannequins, an experience that clearly helped define his life's work.
This unique poster will make a fascinating addition to your poster collection. Bottom right margin reads: Poster Originals Limited #52
