Renowned Dutch-American painter Willem De Kooning designed this poster for the 1974 Festival dei Due Mondi (Festival of the Two Worlds) in Spoleto, Italy.
De Kooning (1904-1997) rose to prominence as an artist in the Abstract Expressionist movement and within that movement was considered an action painter. His style using quick brush strokes, brilliant colors and layered images is clearly reflected in this wonderfully colorful, swirly and exuberant abstract art design that promotes this Italian festival, an exuberant art experience in its own right. In this respect, the poster conveys the perfect message for the event it promotes.
Born in Rotterdam, Netherlands, De Kooning (1904 – 1997) came to the United States as a stowaway in 1926. His work is process oriented and labor intensive. A painting of his which may look as though it was done in a short period of time might have taken him several years to complete. In 1943, de Kooning married Elaine de Kooning, a notable painter in her own right. His works are displayed in collections at museums around the world.
This colorful and spirited poster will add dazzle to and dominate every room it visits.
