This classic Czech lithograph from 1935 celebrates the sixtieth anniversary of Otta soap. The Otta soap company opened its first soap factory in 1875 in the Czechoslovakian town of Rakovnik, just west of Prague. The Czech word Rak, from which the town is named, translates as “crawfish” in English, and the image of a red crawfish is on the city’s flag as well as on the Otta soap box shown in the poster. The Czech words Jubilejni Mydlo also appear on the box and mean “Jubilee Soap.”
The Otta soap factory in Rakovnik was purchased by Procter & Gamble in 1991.
Elegant, with lovely colors and a simple design, this very rare vintage poster will make a impressive addition to every vintage poster collection.
