Flying a kite is one of the many activities at picnics, so it's fitting that the graphic chosen for this poster commemorating the Herman Miller 2000 Annual Picnic is a kite.
What's so much fun about this design is that, in addition to the green kite, there are three more kites going along for the ride: a purple one, a white one and a black one - all with slightly different "kite-like" shapes but all outlined brilliantly against the bright green of the actual kite. All three point up, in the direction that the green kite is going, as though adding some sort of aerodynamic boost all their own. The lovely blue sky with its fluffy white clouds provides a colorful background to this soaring scene.
This poster is one of many created by HM designer Kathy Stanton (b. 1950s) celebrating Herman Miller Company's annual summer picnic. Stanton was also Herman Miller Senior Manager for Content (2004-2008) and Senior Graphic Manager (1979-2008).
Flying a kite is one of life's simple pleasures, and this poster reminds us of that. It deserves a spot in everyone's home.
