This beautiful vintage poster showing a majestic ship sailing full steam ahead advertises Holland America Line cruises. The steamship shown is the Statendam (with the name appearing here on the ship), a Dutch passenger ship that was in service between 1929 and 1939. The red, white and blue flag flying on the bow is the flag of The Netherlands. During the ten years that this ship sailed, its route was Rotterdam-New York in the summers and New York-The Caribbean in the winter.
The history of the great steamships that crisscrossed the Atlantic before airplanes became the preferred mode of trans-Atlantic travel is fascinating. Own a bit of this history with this authentic vintage poster that captures in great detail the excitement of steamship travel.
