CIVIL WAR DRESS PARADE

The full title of this Civil War etching, circa 1862, is: DRESS PARADE AND REVIEW OF THE FIRST SOUTH CAROLINA (COLORED) VOLUNTEERS. It is from a sketch by W. T. Crane.

Crane (1832-1865) worked for Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper as a special artist throughout the War. Line engravings based on Crane's sketches and drawings were published in The Soldier in Our Civil War, a pictorial history of the conflict.
