The Lawrence Tree, a 1929 oil painting by artist Georgia O’Keeffe, is the artwork on this 1981 poster for the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival in Seattle. This hauntingly beautiful picture, done by O’Keeffe from the vision she saw looking up through the branches of a pine tree at night, is one of her most famous works. The tree is called the “Lawrence Tree” because it was on D.H. Lawrence’s ranch in northern New Mexico.
Georgia O’Keeffe (1887-1987) was an American artist known for her paintings of flowers, New York skyscrapers, and New Mexico landscapes. As one of the most significant artists of the 20th century, she is renowned for her contribution to modern art.
