This lovely Art Deco travel poster from 1930 sells the allure of visiting Bandol, a popular seaside resort on the Mediterranean in the south of France. In the foreground is a close-up picture of a thoroughly "modern" woman, with wind-blown, short hair and the latest fashionable, tight-fitting bathing attire, having a terrific time as she is towed behind a motorboat (presumably) while standing on a board. She is demonstrating her athleticism and balance by holding one hand in the air and is smiling broadly. In the background is the beach and "Le Casino Municipal."
This beguiling poster by the French Art Deco artist Andre Bermond (1903-1983) is brilliantly colorful with blue water, a pinkish background of mountains and sky and yellow accents (her hair, the beach, the print at the bottom). The maroon color in her bathing suit, in the casino sign, and on parts of the casino also provides a lovely contrasting accent.
This poster conveys the simple message that Bandol is the perfect vacation getaway destination if you love the beach, water sports and casinos. And doesn't everyone?
Art Deco posters like this one are in great demand because of the times, styles and nostalgia they evoke. This is a fun poster to own and would add a very colorful touch to any decor.
